The present thesis “Design and manufacture of lightweight concrete using foaming additive applied to non-structural masonry units“ aims to provide an alternative for the construction of non-structural masonry walls using lightweight concrete blocks. The necessary tests carried out for the development of this thesis were elaborated in the Materials Testing Laboratory (LEM-UNI). The additive used to design and make the lightweight concrete blocks was a foaming additive, this additive according to the design dosage generates foam during the mixing process, obtaining a more fluid and less dense mixture. The mixing time was constant for all mixing processes, because the variation of this time causes an increase or decrease in the amount of foam, therefore, the variation of the desired density of lightweight concrete. The development of the lightweight concrete design had as a bibliographic reference the ACI 523.3R guide “Guide for cellular concrete above 800 kg / m3“, this guide provides all the guidelines for calculating the dosage of cement, sand, water and additive . Lightweight concrete cubes of 10 cm on each side were elaborated for each design, the compression resistance test was carried out for said cubes, with these results the design that meets the minimum resistance of a concrete block for non-structural use was determined according to NTP 399,600. With the chosen design, the lightweight concrete blocks were made, and the properties of compressive strength, density, absorption, void content and moisture content were studied according to the Peruvian Technical Standard. Piles and walls were made with the lightweight concrete blocks to study the properties of resistance to prism compression and resistance to diagonal compression of walls. According to the compression resistance test of lightweight concrete blocks, it was determined that they exceed the minimum resistance of NTP 399.600 by 21%, and the result of the light concrete absorption test was determined to represent 89% of the maximum value. of the NTP 399.602. Regarding the property of conductivity ends, the results of the study of cellular concrete of the thesis of Yuri Ninaquispe Manchego (2007) are taken as a reference. With this it is concluded that the lightweight concrete block has better thermal properties than conventional King Kong brick walls, so its use is ideal for areas with extreme climates (hot or cold). A cost analysis was conducted for the construction of masonry walls made of king kong brick and lightweight concrete block, the results show that the lightweight concrete block wall system is 31% cheaper than the conventional masonry wall system of king kong brick walls. A weight per m2 wall analysis was carried out for the two systems, resulting in 42% lighter the lightweight concrete block walls. The lightweight concrete block wall system is a good alternative because they are lighter and cheaper compared to conventional brick walls, in addition to providing good thermal and acoustic properties. The use of the blocks designed in this thesis reduces the dead load of a building work, which leads to the reduction of the earthquake force in the event of a telluric event.
