The present investigation took place in the cities of Lima and Canta and was carried out from 2019 to February 2020. A spark ignition engine that operated on a generator set had to be conditioned and for that it had to be converted from gasoline fuel to natural gas. The main objective of this research project was to evaluate the power of an MECH internal combustion engine converted to natural gas to operate between the city of Lima and Canta. This research project was justified because it is a topical issue and was sustained by its great importance, because as the central government has been promoting the consumption of natural gas within our country, it will result in the appearance of vehicles and groups CNG consuming generators, so it is necessary to assess the power when operating in areas that are higher than 1000 meters above sea level, whose engine is installed in a generator set converted to natural gas. As the height above sea level increases, the amount of atmospheric air decreases due to the decrease in atmospheric pressure; in addition, the volumetric composition of oxygen in the air also decreases because it has a higher molecular weight than nitrogen. In other words, by increasing altitude, you will have less air, and additionally you will have less oxygen, which will result in a decrease in engine power and an increase in specific fuel consumption. The methodology to be used in this thesis has been at the level of descriptive and quantitative research, the research design will be experimental, and the unit of analysis will be the spark-ignition internal combustion engine that is previously conditioned in a test bench. The technique used for data collection was experimental, both in the city of Lima and in the city of Canta, which is located at altitudes above 1000 meters above sea level. The information was processed using Excel and Matlab, then the corresponding formulas were applied to determine the power value and other parameters, which were used to obtain tables and graphs. The expected results will be to have quantified the power delivered by a MECH converted to natural gas operating between the cities of Lima and Canta, and also to have the amount of emissions of combustion gases and which are within the ranges established by the MTC. From the results obtained, if it does not meet the requirements of the maximum permissible limits, ways will be sought to minimize the negative consequences on the environment, which altitude produces in the behavior of a MECH converted to natural gas.
