The thesis study the protection of banks against the phenomenon of lateral erosion of the right bank of the Madre de Dios River in the “La Pastora“ zone, through the development of a physical model of mobile bed on a reduced scale that represents the stretch For this reason, a breakwater system was implemented as an alternative solution to reduce the speed of the water near the right bank of the riverbed, since the population centers belonging to the low jungle suffer constant disasters due to the floods, due to the constant times of floods in the rivers that allow to destabilize the banks. The phenomenon that we wish to control is lateral erosion and we chose the use of a physical model to perform experimental tests to study or evaluate the use of this type of solution alternative. In addition, the results obtained will generate a scientific and technical contribution for those who study this phenomenon where the protection technology known as the Wood Jam Engineering is used. The experience of protecting riverbanks using tree trunks in the Amazonian rivers of Peru is null, since only studies were carried out in rivers with low flows in European countries and in the United States, so it is important to promote research in new engineering techniques that allow to optimize costs and times in the constructive process. The geometrical design of the protection system was consulted by the design guide of large structures of wood material drafted by the United States Army Corps of Engineers with the purpose of distributing the logs in a prismatic framework represented at the scale of the model. The construction of the breakwaters was performed in the carpentry area of the laboratory and the placement of breakwaters was performed using topographic instruments with the orientation and position of the normal axis of each breakwater, its embedding in the riverbank was carried out by means of masonry procedures and finally the experimental testing procedure with the respective design improvements. The general activities in the present experimental procedure include the following: - Selection of the data necessary for physical modeling. - Calibration of the experimental model. - Experimentation of conditions without protection structures (breakwaters). - Analysis of the data such as the morphology of the channel and the flow velocity of the conditions without protection structures. - Experimentation of conditions with protection structures (breakwaters). - Analysis of the data such as the channel morphology and the flow velocity of the conditions with protection structures. - Reformulation and improvements in the preliminary design of the protection system. The results obtained from the tests allowed to establish the comparison of velocity and morphology of the channel whose comparison allows to evaluate the effectiveness of the protection structures.
