This thesis was carried out within the framework of the project “Proposal for conditioned green roofs for rural houses in the high Andean zones of Peru (altitude > 3500 masl)“. The research proposed a temperature regulation system in rural houses in order to increase temperatures when they are low. This system consists of adding a vegetation cover to a pre-existing roof of a typical rural house, calling this system “Techo Verde”. Techo Verde consists of a waterproof layer, a drainage system, a geotextile, a plant substrate and plantings from the bottom up. The drainage system used is the MacDrain 2L FP, the plant substrate and the plantations are native to the project area. Wood planks were also used for the contour of the Techo Verde. Techo Verde is an alternative to reduce the effects of cold inside the house. The variation of temperature inside the house was evaluated analytically, computationally and experimentally, quantifying the heat transfer to compare it with other temperature regulation systems. For this evaluation, a full-scale housing prototype (PVER) and a reduced-scale housing model (MVER) were proposed. The PVER is the representation of a typical rural dwelling with full-scale dimensions obtained from measurements taken in typical rural dwellings in the Junín region. The MVER is the representation of a rural house with reduced dimensions considering geometric similarity with the PVER by means of a reduced scale factor. To determine the scale factor, values used in similar studies were reviewed, choosing the most adequate scale factor considering the instrumentation procedure and data collection. For the experimental evaluation, four MVERs were built, locating them in the Chuquiquirpay town, Santa Bárbara de Carhuacayán district, Yauli province, Junín region. The MVERs were named MC-0, MV-1, MV-2 and MV-3. The MC-0 is the control model and the MV-1, MV-2 and MV-3 are the Techo Verde housing models. In the evaluation of the MVER and PVER, the heat flow by conduction, convection and radiation mechanisms in each envelope element was quantified. The computational evaluation of the Techo Verde consisted of comparing the thermal performance between MVER and PVER with experimentally obtained MVER temperature data. The Sketchup and EnergyPlus programs were used to obtain temperature values that were used in the PVER. The programs used data from the thermal properties of the interior components of the house and the envelope. As a result of the analysis, it was observed that the MV-3 model performed better as a thermal regulator due to its higher green roof leaf density. In all cases, it was possible to increase the interior temperature for the minimum temperature conditions, demonstrating that Techo Verde is an efficient system. It was observed that the minimum temperature recorded in the environment occurs between 5am and 6am, the MC-0 reached an average minimum temperature of 35.6 °F, in the MV-3 reached 40.1 °F, and the prototype of the MV-3 reached, up to 42.8 °F. The temperature increase achieved in the MV-3 prototype did not consider the thermal gains common in a high Andean dwelling, such as human heat, heat gained from cooking food, light fixtures and the thermal mass of furnishings. The minimum temperature of thermal comfort according to Givoni is 20 °C, to reach this temperature it is recommended to use complementary bioclimatic strategies such as temperature regulators applied to walls, floors and thermal bridges, since there is also great heat loss there.
