In this research of professional sufficiency, the alternative of dielectric oil of vegetable origin as a refrigerant in power transformers is studied to prove if the transformer improves its performance, the verification is carried out through dielectric oil tests and comparison of the results with international standards from the Institute of Electronic and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). In the development of this work, field information has been collected from a 230 kV power transformer, the transformer was designed to operate with dielectric vegetable oil. The transformer did not present electrical failures during the investigation stage, the only intervention occurred in February 2019 where the leakage of insulating oil was corrected through the gasket of a flange of the equipment. The dielectric oil underwent the following physicochemical tests, neutralization index, dielectric strength, dielectric loss factor at 25 ° C and 100 ° C, water content and viscosity; In addition, chromatographic tests were carried out, analysis of dissolved gases, among which a greater presence of Carbon dioxide (CO2), Carbon monoxide (CO), Ethane (C2H6), Hydrogen (H2) and Methane (CH4) was observed. Those tests were carried out periodically between the years 2015 and 2019, their trend lines were analyzed comparing with the established limits and an interpretation of the concentrations of combustible gases obtained was performed. With all the information and analysis carried out throughout this research, the respective conclusions and recommendations are presented
