This research aims to be a contribution to the knowledge of informal housing and public space in Latin America, the main objective being to explore the coincidence of exterior physical characteristics of the informal hillside housing, which allows determining the existence of pattems of appropriation of public space. The analysis of the expansion of informal housing from the hillside to the street and its recognition as patterns of appropriation of public space will allow organizing and categorizing the variables of this phenomenon that until now have not been explored. Likewise, the research will provide new knowledge in the studies of informal housing and public space on the hillside, as well as on the appropriation of public space. The case study is the dwellings located on San Martin Avenue, in San Juan de Lurigancho. This sector of the district has been chosen for its longitudinal growth towards the highest part of the ravine, which allows comparing the appropriation of public space while the slope increases.
