This research is a study and statistic analysis of downtime on the hydraulic shovels fleet in 2012, period in wich indicators were below what is required by the área of operations – Mine, necessary to maintain projected production of mineral. For the understanding of study was important define the current status of the maintenance strategy (corrective maintenance, preventive and predictive) in order to identify gaps in some tasks. Also in accomplishment of research objectives was important use of reliability tools such as Pareto diagram and Jack Knife diagram, achieving identify chronic and acute subsystems affecting fleet of hydraulic shovels. As a result of the identification of acute - chronic subsystems, that according to our study are hydraulic components, could be determined by a study of reliability and life-cycle assessment, the optimum time to change hydraulic component. Also after identifying in our study the chronic subsystems could be determined by the FMEA (Analysis of failure modes and effects), the new tasks of preventive and predictive maintenance. From the above findings, we propose a new maintenance strategy based primarily on reliability analysis, life-cycle assessment and FMEA. As a result of the application of this new maintenance strategy, is expected to achieve increasing levels of reliability and availability as well as reduce the costs of maintaining the fleet of hydraulic shovels.
