Recently, climate change problem discussions have led many countries - including Peru - to hammer out a deal to mitigate its effects and it is necessary to limit greenhouse gas emissions, so they have made commitments to reduce them. Because of this and other arguments, in Peru, many sectors have been promoting greater participation of non-conventional renewable energies (NCRE) in the electricity matrix. In consequence, the planning of the generation expansion in the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN) is carried out in this thesis, setting greater objectives in the NCRE long-term participation. First, the basic aspects of the traditional approach to electrical systems planning are reviewed, as well as new paradigms that consider the NCRE expansion. Secondly, the NCRE greatest influence development factors in Peru are analyzed. Thirdly, the electricity demand and the generation supply are forecasted to simulate the SEIN long-term economic operation. Finally, the simulation results are evaluated with other indicators to determine the viability of the SEIN generation expansion considering a greater ERNC penetration.
