The main purpose of this thesis is to design a high voltage microsubstation of 138/22,9 kV – 500 kVA connected to a high voltage transmission line in areas surrounding rural villages. With this design, it will be possible to obtain high availability of electrical energy with a low investment cost. Quantitative method was used and, through mathematical calculations, main parameters of the Microsubstation were determined, which allowed the design of the protection systems against overcurrents and transient overvoltages of the Microsubstation. Through comparing investment costs for the construction of a High Voltage Microsubstation and a Conventional Substation for Rural Electrification, it was determined that the Microsubstation is a viable alternative from a technical-economic point of view. According to the results obtained, it was determined that overcurrent protection, on the primary side of the High Voltage Microsubstation, is a physical characteristic of the primary winding of the Voltage Transformer, according to the manufacturer, type SSMV. In addition, there is a significant difference between the investment costs of a High Voltage Microsubstation and a Conventional Substation for Rural Electrification. Finally, it is concluded that the installation of additional equipment is not necessary to protect the High Voltage Microsubstation against overcurrent and for this reason the construction of a High Voltage Microsubstation is an economical alternative to provide electrical energy to villages rural.
