In the process of thermoforming molds design, finite element simulation is used to know the geometry that will have the product of a new mold. So that we can design a new mold that will produce vessels with the geometry required, we need to make trial and error tests in the simulation because each mold has a particular geometry and this makes modification in thermoforming process. To minimize the amount of trial and error tests in the simulation, we must find out the influence of operating variables in the thermoforming process in each mold. The general objective of this research work is to determine the significant variables using a model based on the design of experiments and finite elements of the thermoforming process. To do this, a simulation model was first performed by finite elements of the thermoforming process in the Ansys software, using the data from a 5.5-ounce vessel mold of an ILLIG RDM-75K model machine. The simulation model was validated with 5.5-ounce vessel data produced by the mold. Then, simulations were carried out with the validated model following a design of experiments, this is factorial type with 2 levels and 3 factors. Finally, the significant variables of the thermoforming process for the 5.5-ounce vessel mold were determined and the influence of the variables analyzed on the thickness of the resulting product.
