In this thesis, the technical and economic evaluation of the implementation of the protection and control system for the new Substation of Digital Transmission 220/66 kV Medio Mundo, belonging to the distribution company Enel Distribución Perú SAA, was developed, in order to optimize the operation of this substation, due to the growing need to build digital substations, in which the number of copper control cables is reduced and fiber optic cables are used, thus obtaining less time to construction, savings in space and costs, and increase the availability and reliability of the national interconnected electrical system (SEIN by its acronym in Spanish) network. For the present project, the amount of boards and protection and control equipment necessary according to the substation design was dimensioned, based on this the proposal of the architecture of the integral system of protection and control and its characteristics was presented, according to the standards of the norm IEC 61850, for automation of substations, taking into account the operation from different hierarchical levels and the redundancy to guarantee the availability of the substation, value that was calculated, resulting 99.8945%, this implies that the substation would be unavailable 9.24 hours a year. From the results of the economic analysis, the implementation cost is less than 5% of the total investment for the construction of this substation and related lines.
