This thesis work seeks to mitigate the repair time of one of the critical equipment of the foundry of Ilo, the water-tube boiler, because to achieve this the operations must be stopped for a long time. One of the stages with the longest duration at a plant shutdown due to boiler repair is the drainage time of the water inside its pipes, whose duration is limited by the evacuation capacity of its drainage well. The actual operation parameters of the two drainage evacuation pumps were measured and their actual operating point is identified. The actual operating parameters of the two drain evacuation pumps were measured and their current operating point is identified. When analyze the causes of the low flow of the pumps, an increase in the energy losses is observed, it is caused by the corrosion inside the pipes, and the low efficiency in the power consumed by the pumps is identified, however they have the possibility of recovering their efficiency and working capacity by changing their point of operation, for which the design point of the piping system that evacuates the water from the drainage pool must be changed by selecting another point of operation with higher flow. The increase of the evacuation flow of the pool will decrease the drainage time of the boiler, consequently the plant downtime will decrease; finally, the total duration time that a plant stop will have with the proposed new evacuation system is calculated.
