This thesis was born from the need to know the improvements that can be produced by the use of the mineral addition called metakaolin in the permeability of portland cement for the Gambetta tunnel project, where the aim was to confirm the decrease of the permeability of the concrete emptied on site. Due to the fact that this mineral addition is not commercialized in our country, it was requested that a small amount be given to us to carry out the tests of this thesis. In order to achieve this goal, the study was planned with 2 percentages of replacement of the cementing material for the metakaolin material, of 10% and 15%; for ages of wet curing of 28 and 56 days. As a basis for carrying out this study, different standards were taken into account to measure the permeability of concrete, among which the Colombian standard NTC 4483 stands out. The measurements of the permeability of the concrete specimens with the different percentages of metakaolin were made in a permeability measuring equipment applying water under pressure of 0.5 MPa for 4 days. As a result of the tests carried out, it is observed that the use of metakaolin as a mineral addition of portland concrete improves the impermeability of this front to the concrete without addition, in greater proportion with 15% of metakaolin. On the other hand, it is also observed that the use of metakaolin improves the compressive strength of Portland cement concrete.
