According to several reports made by the local transportation authorities, over 85% of the roads are classified as unsurfaced. These roads usually lack of a proper management program that increases maintenance costs and reduces the useful lifetime of them, plus the fact that are considered as low transit roads which makes traditional construction procedures an expensive investment, causing that the comfort and safety of the users and the availability of the road are at risk. This is the reason we started to look into new alternatives to treat this kind of pavements such as the chemical stabilization of soils for road construction. This process aims to improve one or more features of an inner weak soil usually the bearing value as the case of this investigation, by adding an artificial product. By doing so, the treated soil or course must fulfill several comfort road indicators known as Service Levels, which will be evaluated by the overseers of the project regularly. Currently, there are many products we can use for soil stabilization, therefore is important to have technical background in most of these products to use them in the right way in order to choose the best economic and engineering alternative. On this opportunity, we have studied two products, Proes and Terrasil, applied on the project “Conservacion Vial Coracora”, both aim to improve the bearing ratio of the treated course. The investigation is about several rates of the chemical products applied to different soil samples and tested under regulated procedures to get an optimal dosage considering the technical and economic side of the project.
