This thesis addresses the problem caused by the influence of unbalanced voltage on negative sequence current method when inter turn short circuit diagnosis is performed on induction motor. For this reason, this thesis consists in find a relation between unbalanced voltage on induction motor and the negative sequence component of the current when there is an inter turn short circuit fault. For this purpose, we will use a technique that improve the negative sequence current method, which consists in breaking down the negative sequence current into one component caused only by short circuit fault and another caused by unbalanced voltage. Then we will perform an experiment, which consist in applying different voltage unbalance to squirrel cage induction motor when it presents an inter turns short circuit fault in one phase. The current in each phase will be measured and the total negative sequence current is calculated from the measured phase current values for each voltage unbalance. Also using the equations from chapter IV, the current produced only by the voltage unbalance and the current produced only by short circuit fault, is calculated. After analyzing the results we conclude that there is a direct relation between voltage unbalance and negative sequence current. Finally, the effect of voltage unbalance on negative sequence current could be quantified and also with the experiment, the technique that improves the negative sequence current method could be verified.
