The thesis "Study of Properties and Parameters of Diatomite Ground, Remolded and Sintered for use as Lightweight Artificial Aggregates of Silica in Mortars and Concrete of Portland Cement" as its name indicates, has been oriented to the study of the properties of diatomites as lightweight artificial aggregates in mortars or concretes of Portland cement mixtures; performing physical, mechanical, chemical and lithological studies before, during and after the manufacturing process. The properties of the sintered diatom as aggregate and also as part of a concrete mixture were evaluated, although the last one (concretes or mortars) haven’t studied that this has been subjected to previous investigations on design methods considering the peculiar characteristics of sintered-diatomite materials. This thesis has a broad theoretical section that has similar definitions, microscopic analysis, petrological forms of aggregates, physical and resistive properties from the point of view of the mechanics of materials, etc. Therefore, it is highly recommended to read it for later studies as a precedent for study in Peru. Finally, it was clarified that if the majority of the tests were performed according to Peruvian technical standards (NTP) since the American standards (ASTM) have also been carried out tests that, because of the novelty of this material are not referenced to these standards, but that previous information has been gathered to determine the best way to perform laboratory processes to determine non-standardized parameters.
