The present work consists in the improvement of the granulometric quality of the sands obtained from the tailings classification process produced by the copper concentrator plants, with the purpose that the tailing dam constructed from such sands, have the conditions of stability and reliability demanded by the relevant regulatory bodies. Such improvement focuses on the development of the control system for the classification process, allowing the operation parameters to be controlled manually (by the operator from the centralized control room) or automatically (by the same system through control loops and automatic sequences of operation). In addition, the analysis of the selection of the communication protocol used in the integration of the field equipment is taken into account, in order to allow the control system to collect reliable information in real time about what is happening at the factory. Likewise, the analysis of the selection of the measuring instruments and field actuators of the plant is made, considering the characteristics of the process (environmental and operational) to avoid erroneous readings of the operation parameters that influence the quality of the sands produced.
