This thesis proposes a methodology for the design of three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors assisted by computer, which it is Implemented in the Matlab Software. The methodology is applied to the design of a three-phase squirrel-cage induction motor of 30 kW. Here it is summarized the theoretical principles and equations that synthesize the relations between magnitudes and characteristics of the motor to design, which are part of the methodology. Making use of tables and practical recommendations it assume some coefficients, which allow the designer to process the calculations with critical character and to make decisions that fulfill the requirements for an acceptable and definitive solution. The methodology is started by specifying the nominal power, nominal voltage, frequency and motor connection, as well as the rated speed. With this information it obtains the fundamental dimensions of the induction motor, such as the external and internal diameter and the length of the magnetic package, the stator winding is designed and the complete geometry of the stator and rotor blades. Finally, to check the design of the motor it calculates the electromechanical and operating characteristics, as well as its operating temperature. If all design restrictions are met, the process ends. Otherwise, the calculation is processed again.
