The Carbon Footprint in the Apumayo Mine for the 2017 year is 24 723.1 t CO2eq and the GHG emission ratio is 13 150.6 t CO2eq / t Au produced, with 60% of direct emissions (scope 1), followed by indirect emissions (scope 2) with 33% and finally, indirect emissions (scope 3) with 7% of the total emissions. The loading and hauling process generated the most emissions, representing 51% of the total GHG emissions of the Apumayo Mine, mainly due to fuel consumption in heavy vehicles such as dump trucks, tractors, front loaders, among others. In addition, this investigation concludes that carbon footprint analysis can be included into the Environmental Impact Studies (EIS) of the mining sector. The chapters of the EIS that would be related to are: (i) Chapter 2: Description of the Project, adding a mapping of the project's processes and identifying all the inputs and outputs; (ii) Chapter 3: Baseline, describing the existing GHG emission sources in the conditions before the project; (ii) Chapter 5: Characterization of Environmental Impacts, quantifying GHG emissions of scopes 1 and 2 as a minimum; (iii) Chapter 6: Strategy on Environmental Management, proposing measures according to the hierarchy of impact mitigation (prevention, minimization, rehabilitation or compensation); (iv) in the chapter Economic Valuation of the Environmental Impact, quantifying the quantified GHG emissions and finally, Annexes, including calculations, input data and emission factors used in the calculation methodology of the carbon footprint.
