A pilot-scale reactor, consisting of two aeration tanks whith their respective secundary settlers, was built al CITRAR-FIA – UNI to determine the Ks and P coeficients of the activated sludge technology with fixed media biofilm. One of the aeration tank worked with the activated sludge technology with fixed media biofilm and the other with conventional activated sludge. Both aeration tanks worked under the same conditions so that they could be compared, and the advantages and disadvantages of each tank could be identified. The kinetic coefficients (Ks and P) found for the technology of activated sludge with fixed media biofilm are 4.283 〖g/(d.m〗^2) and 178.214 〖g/m〗^3respectively. These values can be used as a reference to design wastewater treatment plants in facilities that have similar environmental and water quality characteristics to CITRAR-FIA-UNI. When comparing the removal efficiencies of organic matter measured as COD between activated sludge technology with fixed media biofilm and conventional activated sludge technology, the efficiencies obtained for an organic load of 33,625 gCOD/d were 91.534% and 76.793% respectively. In addition, when applying an organic load of 181,646 gCOD/d, the yielded efficiencies were 71.148% for activated sludge with fixed media biofilm and 55.058% for conventional activated sludge. It was concluded that activated sludge technology with fixed media biofilm is more efficient than conventional activated sludge.
