In this thesis evaluates the technical and economic prefeasibility of implementing a manufacturing plant carbon disulfide from natural gas. The technology to use is based on the reaction between methane (main component of natural gas) and sulfur, they both in vapor phase, at pressures between 2 and 5 atm. and at temperatures around 400-700 ° C. The reaction is performed in a reaction furnace with an excess of sulfur to achieve an 90% conversion. The market study found that domestic demand is covered 100% by U.S.A. imports, mainly. It also identified a potential market (Brazil) for the export of carbon disulfide. Based on this information we determined the ability of the plant (15 000 MT / year). In the economic assessment took into account all costs, since the initial investment and working capital to operating costs. While for the revenue were considered sales projections for the first year of operation of the project (2014). Subsequently it analyzed various scenarios, in which were modified basic variables of the economic evaluation. These variables were: the sales price of the product and the cost of raw materials (natural gas and sulfur). The study concluded with positive results in all analyzes performed, so it is considered a viable investment option that will generate benefits for the domestic market.
