As part of my professional experience in mineral benefit plants, I’m a witness of situations and difficulties that are not limited to the profession, but also require me to interact with the social and economic aspects of the communities located nearby to these mining areas as well as to share the problems that afflict these regions. The common problem in several regions of the country, especially in the northern coast of Peru, is the scarcity of water. This problem that is not only relevant to the communities but also to the mining projects that need to implement their benefit plants in these areas. Many projects dedicated to the treatment of the phosphorous rocks in Bayóvar adopted as a main solution to use sea wáter in the majority of the process. However, because of high costs and distance problems, it is necessary and indispensable to look for alternative solutions that seek to rationalize and reuse water in a mineral benefit plant. That is why this study states as an alternative to use the technology of thickening and clarification of effluents of discard to recover sea water; it does not pretend to be the solution to this problem but to provide input and knowledge to professionals for better future decisions in these projects. The research topic requires to know and investigate the geology and hydrology of the area of study, so I appreciate the support of the city hall library of the province of Sechura for the information provided.
