The limited capacity of the copper concentrates smelters to control its gaseous emissions does that these had implemented supplementary programs of environmental control, in parallel form until the execution of all the mitigation measures recommended according to its adaptation and environmental handling program (PAMA). These programs consist on production cuttings conditioned by the climatic conditions of the environment. In the case of a copper smelting with two production circuits: reverberatory ^furnaces - Peirce Smith converters and Teniente converter - Peirce Smith converters, this program limits the capacity of the reverberatory ^furnaces and the availability of the Peirce Smith converters, in the periods in that there are directional changes of the winds toward the populated centres. The continuous operation ofthe Teniente converter, since works with its acid plant, and its conversion flexibility to treat certain quantity of hot matte depending on the characteristics of the feed, it constitutes an altemative to manage to convenience the materials that feed to the reactor to increase the total production of the smelter in the periods of production cutting for environmental control. In the present work determines the influence of the characteristic mineralogical of the concentrates denominated as I and II, characteristic at the south of the Peru, and of the different types of revert materials existent in the smelter; in the smelted concentrates capacity, hot matte requirement and white metal production in the Teniente converter. For it was characterized mineralogically the concentrates I and II, s^rting from the results of the copper sequential analyses. Also was developed the mass and energy balance of the Teniente converter, in steady state for a day of operation, resolved matricially in electronic calculate sheet, being the results validated statistically with real dates of plant. The results show that the feeding of concentrate II and aisle cold material as revert material, demand major quantity of hot matte in the Teniente converter, due to the minor calorific contribution in these materials, especially for their minor content of FeS. This is the altemative to use in the periods of production cutting for environmental control to avoid the considerable decrease of the smelt capacity of the reverberatory ^furnaces. On the other hand, in periods of not production cutting, has the altemative of feeding major proportion of concéntrate I and cold matte as revert material, since these materials demand minor quantity of hot matte in the Teniente converter, due to their major calorific contribution, being the hot marte tried in the Peirce Smith converters for their major availability, being centered the Teniente converter in a major smelt of concentrate. The major consumption of cold material in the Teniente converter implies the inconvenience of creating certain cold areas in the reactor, where the floor growths for precipitation of the magnetite, especially in the area of white metal evacuation it is unavoidable. To avoid that the major consumption of cold material displeases a considerable quantity of smelted concentrate, it is had the altemative of increasing the oxygen enrichment, being limited to 33.5% due to the serious inconveniences that it could cause in the gases handling, the operation of the acid plant and of the effluents plant. Likewise the consumption of cold matte is limited one to a maximum of 6% in the feed, due to the danger that a bigger proportion could cause the reduction of the magnetite layer that protects to the refractory lining, putting in danger the security of the equipment. The economic analysis of the operation altematives in the Teniente converter in periods of production cutting for environmental control, regarding the feeding in more proportion of concentrate II and of aisle cold material, it shows in both cases economic benefit. In s^mary, the operation altematives in the teniente converter regarding the appropriate handling of the materials that feed to the reactor according to the climatic conditions that cause the operation cuttings, would demonstrate the obtaimng of good productive results and the good handling of cold materials inventories in the smelter.
