The objective of the present investigation was to demonstrate the influence of the rotation speed of the distribution system in the removal efficiency of organic matter of a trickling filter. The system was fed with the effluent of the Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket Reactor (UASB) located at CITRAR, by means of a pumping equipment. The wastewater was accumulated in a storage tank, which was situated in the top of a structure built especially for this system, constituted by: a primary sedimentation tanks, feeding pipes, the distribution rotatory system, trickling filters, a ventilation system and secondary sedimentation tanks. The monitoring of these units lasted six months. Different speeds rotation were applied in each filter, based on a theoretical speed of 2 rpm, it was decided to use rates of 2, 3 and 5 rpm. During the operation of the system several problems were presented, such as the apparition of flies in the surface and the drainage of the filters and the constant valves clogging and distribution system. The results show that the rate with the highest removal efficiency of organic matter is 5 revolutions per minute, with a maximum efficiency of 76.83%, with a maximum efficiency of 76.83%.
