In this research the height (granular bed) of a subsurface artificial wetland with macrophyte chrysopogon zizanioides was studied and the highest efficiency in the removal of organic matter will be obtained for the climatological conditions of Peru. In order to achieve this, daily and weekly characterizations of the tributaries and effluents of each wetland of different granular bed height (H1=0.6m, H2=0.8m and H3=1m) were carried out. Varying the design flow rate (280 L/day) in the range 280 L/day-500 L/day. Two stages were studied. Stage I: With a flow rate of 280 L/day 3 months and 2 months with a flow rate of 430 L/day. Stage II: With a flow rate of 430 L/day 2 months and 1 month with a flow rate of 500 L/day. It was demonstrated that the best removal efficiencies of organic matter in terms of BOD5 and COD in the present investigation were obtained with the flow rate of 430 L/day. And better removal in terms of Turbidity and SST with the flow of 500 L/day. The maximum removal efficiencies are: COD 47.49% in H2=0.8m; BOD5 26.09% in H1=0.6m; SST 69.31% in H3=1.0m and Turbidity 81.51% in H3=1.0m. These values are the final averages in the two stages with all flows evaluated (280 L/day, 430 L/day and 500 L/day) Comparing the efficiencies obtained with the flow rate of 430 L/day and the flow rate of 500 L/day, it is shown that the efficiency of the parameters analyzed decreases by an average of 9%. The pH of the effluent and effluent in the experimental system were constant throughout the investigation, and there was no significant variation for the purpose of the present investigation. The temperature of the effluents with respect to the influent generally presents a variation of 0.86C ° in H1=0.6m; 0.71C ° in H2=0.8m and 0.41C ° in H3=1.0m. The standard deviations are H1: 13.01%; H2: 14.03% and H3: 14.37% respectively (a sample of 720 data for each). The conductivity of effluents with respect to the influent in the experimental system in all the research in general presented an increase of on average of 19.31 uS/cm of direct form to the height of granular bed. With a standard deviation of 7.25%.
