The study and use of corrosion inhibitors have become increasingly important in recent years, due to the need to control the corrosion of metals and their alloys in contact with an aggressive environment, being a technique very used in various industrial processes (pickling, cooling systems, pipeline transportation, etc.); many of these inhibitors are organic compounds, which contain nitrogen, sulfur or oxygen. However most of these organic compounds are toxic to living beings, and the environment; in addition to the high cost of synthesis and isolating from its matrix; generating the necessity to find new sources which present no such drawbacks. In this thesis, is obtained an extract of alkaloids from the leaves of Annona Muricata (Soursop) and its use is evaluated as corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in hydrochloric acid. The used extract is elaborated by a solid-liquid extraction, followed by further purifications until obtain the crude extract of alkaloids; the presence of these components was checked through the addition of reagents (Mayer) and thin layer chromatography. Finally, by electrochemical tests of Linear Polarization Resistance, Tafel Curves and Electrochemical Impedance, thus efficiency and activity and as a corrosion inhibitor of the extract are verified, applied on carbon steel at different rates and at different concentrations of aqueous solutions of HCl (0.50 M, 1M and 2M).
