The present Thesis is developed about “Evaluation of cold production strategies for optimal development in heavy oil reservoirs with water drive mechanism in the Marañon Basin“ which is based on 4 phases or stages. The first phase includes the conceptual framework; a literature review of the Sub-Andean Basins of water drive heavy oil reservoirs; review of technologies to detennine the rock-fluid properties in heavy oil reservoirs; review of mechanisms of hydraulic drive both sedge and bottom and review of heavy oil production technologies for reservoir level and well level. In the second phase “the selection criteria“ (Screening) are identified. Production strategies to be applied to more than 7000 feet of depth in fluvial and fluvio-deltaic environments, similar to the Marañon Basin are identified and selected and selection matrixes of cold and thennal production technologies are elaborated. The third phase describes the proposed “cold production“ technologies at reservoir level and well level to be applied to Maranon basin. At reservoir level Inflow Equalizers Technology (Inflow Control Devices- ÍCD) in horizontal wells is proposed to reduce the water coning effect. At well level Heater Cable technology is proposed to increase production, and improved the mobility of heavy oil. The fourth phase presents the results of the proposed technologies usmg commercial reservoir simulation software’s for Inflow Equalizers and solutions of analytical methods for Heater cable. As input data, geological information and fluid characteristics of analogues reservoirs to the Marañon Basin are used. At reservoir level are compared production results with conventional completion and inflow equalizers completion; similarly, at well level are compared production results of a conventional artificial lift system and completion with heater cable. Further economic evaluations were performed with production proflles obtained from the simulation models to determine the profitability of the strategies.
