The former thesis named: “Study at a fixed- bed model of a system of submerged impermeable groynes in an upper Amazonian Peruvian river“ was made because of the accelerated erosion process in the right bank in a curve section of the upper Amazonian Peruvian river Madre de Dios, La Pastora, adjacent to the city of Puerto Maldonado, and only a few meters away from the lnteroceanica Highway. The efficiency of this hydraulic structure that consists of a system of impermeable submerged groynes was evaluated with the characteristics and parameters of the upper Peruvian Amazonian rivers as an economic solution for the kind of problems that often presents this type of rivers and that was effective in rivers of others countries with similar characteristics. This project involves the study of the velocity field in the 2.15 km stretch of Madre de Dios river in the hydraulic model River 20 in arder to optimize the design of the impermeable submerged groynes defined by the bibliography and authors studied. This hydraulic model simulates a two dimensional flow and is represented by complex mathematical equations solved by the finite elements method (FEM). Based on this study an optima! design of six (06) impermeable submerged groynes of rectangular section is defined for the next study. Due to the fact that the hydraulic model River 20 has its limitations, the research required the construction and study in a hydraulic physical model of fixed - bed to study the velocity field in the river with the influence of the groynes. These velocities were measured with an electromagnetic velocity current meter. The principal objective of the groynes is to protect the affected bank of the river against the erosion process, so the velocity near the right bank, in the scenario with groynes, should be less than the velocities in the scenario without groynes. The first study of the velocity field in the hydraulic model was with the scenario without groynes, then the study of the velocity field in the scenario with groynes. Three different designs in the fixed - bed hydraulic model were studied based on a system of six (06) groynes, where the variable parameters are the angle of inclination, the length and the addition of an extra groyne at the beginning of the system. The first design studied was the optimized in the hydraulic model River 20, then the other two designs were defined by the results of the first study. Finally the most efficient design was defined with the results of the three studies of the velocity field in the fixed - bed hydraulic model.
