This paper aims to analyze the stability of the tailings dam of the San Rafael Mining Unit. The mine has been operating in the tailings deposit Bofedal III and due to the increase in production has been necessary to expand their storage capacity. The tailings deposit growth aims to increase the operational capacity of the dam in approximately 8.2 years. According to the operation data, estimated that the mine will handle an average production of tailings of 1045 ton / day. Aspects investigated involve assessing the overall safety factor and the local slope of the dam regrowth, static and Pseudo. To determine the local and global stability of slopes in static condition of the dam and Pseudo applied limit equilibrium methods available in the program SLIDE 6 (Rocscience). For this study we considered the simplified Bishop method, Janbu Simplified and Spencer, being more decisive in assessing dam stability results obtained by the method in Spencer because rigorously satisfy the equations of equilibrium of forces and moments for any form of the fault surface.
