This study has proposed show the use of operative strategies to obtain the optimization of mining and building process, such as reducing mining cycle and investment cost. The same that was launched when Minera IRL S.A. decided to start the last phase of its exploration stage with the building of its exploration tunnel of 1200 m long in march 2012 through its subsidiary Minera Kuri Kullu S.A located in Puno, Peru. Few months into this excavation, the rate of progress revealed shortcomings and delays, which was not within expected, the projected investment evaluated at that time amounts to nearly $1 million over the budgeted, generating confusion in the company and investors. Supported by continuous improvement methodology, it made the evaluation of tunnel construction variables, finding in mining cycle the basis of problem, showing problems in times of reinforcement, efficiency rock blasting, over excavation, lack of motivation in workers, etc. Using the SWOT analysis, operative strategies were formulated, which are applied directly in the operation, observing their behavior in the short and long term, resulting in the finalization of tunnel in lower than projected time without exceeding the initial investment cost, thus proving the effectiveness of operative strategies’ implementation.
