This research is based on the study of occupational exposure to free crystalline silica during 2014 in the area of court witnesses to the La Granja copper project, Province of Chota, Cajamarca. The main objective of the study was to evaluate occupational exposure to respirable crystalline silica free workers mentioned area, which has an exhaust ventilation system in each of the cutting machines; this analytical method for sampling NIOSH 7500. This work allows us to determine free level of exposure to respirable crystalline silica based on a statistical procedure that requires a minimum number of samples to obtain a representative value of the exposure was used. The average concentration of personal exposures to crystalline silica had a value of 0.044 mg/m3; however, this value is the true value of exposure of the population evaluated. Using statistical methods, confidence limits with a confidence level of 95%, which contains the true exposure, which was 0.104 mg/m3 and is called Upper Confidence Limit (UCL), which is then compared with calculated the current occupational exposure limits. It was determined that crystalline silica exposure for workers was 2.41 times the occupational exposure limit (OEL); so the exhaust ventilation system does not offer this efficient control for crystalline silica generated in the cutting area witnessed the La Granja copper project. Keyword: occupational exposure to silica dust, respirable crystalline silica, respirable dust, upper confidence limit, dust control system.
