The following paper elaborates on the methodology for the evaluation of the uncertainties associated with two types of natural gas flow meters used by contracting companies during inquiries: orifice plates and ultrasonic meters. This paper should aid petrol companies to have a guide to gauge the uncertainties of their measurements. The assessment of time variations in the uncertainty values will indicate the need for corrective or predictive maintenance in the aforementioned meters. This study has used information provided by the Centro de Desarrollo Tecnológico del Gas, Bucaramanga, Colombia. Inspection activities of measurement systems form the basic structure for the identification and quantification of the sources of uncertainty. Thus, all corporate levels of any company have a responsibility over the quality assurance of their meters. The implementation of such a controlling program represents an investment which minimizes loss and the risk of deficiency in the quantity of product delivered as well as the economic impact to the company or the Goverment. The best way to implement the program is to use international standards such as those contained in ISO 10012:2013 for the management of measurements.
