Self-medication is a public health problem because it can cause serious damage to health, the common cold one of the main reasons for medical consultation, school and work absenteeism. this work established the objective of evaluating the pattern of self-medication in people aged 15 to 60 years with common cold in the district of huancayo. methodology being used as a descriptive study, with a period of two months. the sample size was 399 people between 15-60 years of age, with a confidence level of 95% and margin of error of 5%, obtaining the results as pattern of self-medication: the long time that demands a medical consultation with 20.6%, the promotion of drugs by media with 20.1% and not be affiliated with a state or private insurance with 17.5%. also the total 74.4% self-medicate and more frequent therapeutic groups are: 31.3% with influenza, with 17.5% antipyretics and analgesics with 12.3%; similarly, more frequent discomfort in cold Common are: general malaise with 30.8% and sneezes with 11.8%. Based on the results we reach the conclusions that the main factors that led to self-medication are: long demanded a medical consultation with a 20.6% and drug promotion by the media with 20, 1%.
