Abstract: Tuvo como objetivo determinar el efecto antibacteriano del aceite esencial de Flaveria bidentis “Mata Gusano” frente a cepas de Staphylococcus aureus. El estudio fue experimental, el aceite esencial se obtuvo por arrastre de vapor y se utilizaron concentraciones de 25%, 50%, 75% y 100% para determinar su efecto antibacteriano mediante el método de Kirby-Bauer. Los resultados indicaron que el aceite de Flaveria bidentis fue soluble en etanol de 96°, también presento gran cantidad de flavonoides y alcaloides, asimismo se observo efecto antibacteriano del aceite de F. bidentis al 100%. Se concluyo que aceite esencial de Flaveria bidentis al 100% presenta efecto antibacteriano frente a Staphylococcus aureus pero compardo con gentamicina su efecto es mucho menor

The objective of the study was to determine the antibacterial effect of the essential oil of Flaveria bidentis "Mata Gusano" against Staphylococcus aureus strains. The study was experimental, the essential oil was obtained by vapor entrainment and concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% were used to determine its antibacterial effect by the Kirby-Bauer method. The results indicated that the oil of Flaveria bidentis was soluble in 96° ethanol, also presented a large amount of flavonoids and alkaloids, also observed antibacterial effect of F. bidentis oil at 100%. It was concluded that 100% essential oil of Flaveria bidentis has an antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus but compared to gentamicin its effect is much lower
