Hibiscus sabdariffa L., popularly known as "Jamaica flower", is attributed with antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and diuretic properties. The objective was to test the anti-inflammatory effect of the gel prepared from the hydroalcoholic extract of the flower of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) flower (GEHFHS) in albino rats. The inflammation was provoked by injection of 0.1 mL of carrageenan 1% in the right hind sub plantar of the rat, the vernier was used to measure the level of inflammation in millimeter (mm) at 0, 1, 3, 6 and 18 hours. Thirty-six Holtzman strain female albino rats were randomly distributed in 6 groups (n=6), the treatments were topical; I) No treatment control, II) Gel-based control, III) Diclofenac gel 1%, IV) GEHFHS 3%, V) GEHFHS 5% and VI) GEHFHS 10%, the extract was subjected to solubility test and phytochemical march. Results; the extract was very soluble in petroleum ether, soluble in methanol and ethanol, slightly soluble in benzene and insoluble in water, chloroform and ethyl acetate. The secondary metabolites identified were tannins, alkaloids, leucoanthocyanidins, phenolic compounds, reducing sugars, triterpenoids and/or steroids
