The objective of this research is to identify adverse events in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus caused by the use of metformin in patients of the Central Military Hospital, the study method was basic, descriptive, observational, cross-sectional, the sample consisted of 79 diabetic patients. The results indicate that female sex predominates (55.7%), 46.8% are between 41 and 50 years old. Regarding the parameters of metformin application, it was determined that 74.7% of the patients use 850 mg tablets orally, once a day; regarding additional diseases, it was determined that 31.6% present arterial hypertension and hyperlipidemia and 15.2% use Enalapril + atorvastatin. In conclusion, metformin is effective for the treatment of type 2 DM since it manages to control glucose concentration in normal values.
