Objective: To determine the relationship between the excess of weight and the level of physical activity in 5th grade secondary students at a private school in northern Lima. Material and method: This research has a quantitative approach, with a descriptive-cross-sectional and non-experimental methodological design. Moreover, it shows a correlational link, because it analyzes the relationship joining the two variables. The data collection technique was performed online and the measurement instrument used for this study was the IPAQ method. (International Physical Activity Questionnaire), which consists of 7 described items. Results: The participants were 82 secondary school students with a mean age of 15.76 years (SD=0.95, Min: 15, Max: 18 years). Women represented 63% (n=52) and men 37% (n=30). The low level of physical activity was presented in the 57.3% (n=47), 31.7% (n=26) presented moderate physical activity and 1 1.0% (n=9) had high physical activity. Regarding the excess of weight, the risk status according to the abdominal perimeter of the students, it showed that 71 representing 86.6% of the total of participants have a normal risk status, 10 representing 12.2% have a high risk status and only 1 respondent representing 1.2% has a very high risk status. Concerning the excess of weight and the level of physical activity, it was found that the p-value (Sig.) was 0.217; which is higher than the level of significance; therefore, there is no significant relationship between the excess of weight and the level of physical activity. Conclusions: The level of physical activity in fifth grade students of secondary school was low. The level of the excess of weight in the adolescent is normal followed by the level of high risk and very high risk. Concerning the excess of weight and the level of physical activity. It was found that the p-value (Sig.) was 0.217; which is higher than the significance level (a=0.05), consequently, there is no significant relationship between excess weight and the level of physical activity.
