Energy demand is increasing because of population growth and industrial development. To improve energy efficiency, consumers must become more aware of their energy consumption. At present in Peru, electric service companies must rely on trained personnel to register the periodic consumption of an electric meter with the consumption data generated by the monthly billing; on the other hand, users do not have easy access to information on electricity consumption and technological tools to monitor their electricity consumption. In view of the problems described in this project, the development of an intelligent meter based on Wi-Fi wireless communication technology is presented. With this, it is possible to save the consumption of a user in a database. The objective is to provide the service provider and the user with continuous monitoring to register the electric energy consumption and provide additional information to the user in comparison with the traditional energy meter, so that the consumer will better manage his consumption, which in turn will contribute to savings in his bills. This system can measure the energy and send the information to the service provider and the consumer through the internet, it will not necessarily require personnel to register the data, the user will be more aware of his electrical consumption and the smart meter will be within reach of the population.
