Concerns about employment during secondary education arise because it reduces the effective time that students can dedicate to studying and, consequently, increases the likelihood of dropping out. However, moderate employment in intensity or quantity might have the opposite effect or be indifferent. Previous studies also suggest that work environment could convey values that are useful to students in their educational environment and aspirations for a professional career. However, the stylized facts from the ENAHO 2019 and the fifth round of Young Lives suggest a positive effect. For this reason, this research lays the groundwork for investigating the effect of employment during secondary education on the likelihood of dropping out of high school in Peru.
