The Sphingidae family has 210 genera and about 1500 described species, classified into four subfamilies, Macroglossinae being the most diverse lineage. These moths play an important role in pollination, and in this process they usually get dirty with pollen mainly on the antennae. To clean them, they use the epiphyses, structures found in the anterior tibiae. The epiphyses are important to Lepidopteran biology and also represent one of the synapomorphies that support the monophyly of the group. However, there are few studies that morphologically detail this structure. This study seeks to understand the possible variations of the epiphyses of representatives of Dilophonotini and Philampelini with the aim of contributing to discussions about the morphology of the structure, sexual dimorphism and the relationship with other body structures. A total of 564 epiphyses belonging to 19 genera and 59 species were studied. All the epiphyses were photographed using a stereoscopic microscope and some specimens with a scanning electron microscope, all the photos were used for morphological descriptions and measurements, in addition an allometric regression analysis with other body structures and a geometric morphometry analysis were performed.
