A surgical intervention triggers many emotions, mainly negative, such as anxiety, which is very frequent depending on several factors, including the information that the patient previously receives. The education provided before a surgical procedure is an important part of nursing care because it attenuates the individual's anxiety and prevents possible complications after surgery. For this reason, the study called effectiveness of an educational nursing intervention to reduce the anxiety of the patient with elective surgery in its preoperative stage is proposed, posing the following question: Is the educational nursing intervention effective in reducing the anxiety of the patient with elective surgery in its preoperative stage? With the objective of determining whether the educational nursing intervention is an effective tool to reduce the anxiety of the surgical patient with elective surgery. A secondary study was carried out using an evidence-based nursing methodology (EBE). For data collection, various databases were consulted: BVSalud, PubMed Health, Scielo, Elsevier, Medes, Science, Redalyc, finding 360 articles of which 10 were chosen and subjected to evidence synthesis using the apparent validity guide of Gálvez Toro; choosing a clinical trial, which was analyzed with the CONSORT list and finding as an answer to the question that, is nursing educational intervention effective in decreasing the anxiety of the individual with elective surgery in its preoperative stage. Presenting a level of evidence 1 + A according to SIGN.
