Abstract: La jornada de trabajo genera unos límites temporales dentro de los cuales el trabajador presta sus servicios al empleador y obtiene de este una retribución a cambio. Las Constituciones recogen usualmente que el salario debe ser suficientemente digno para afrontar las necesidades vitales del trabajador y de su familia. Exceder de manera regular o sistemática dicha jornada significa una especie de atentado hacia el trabajador, que no mejora en nada su situación por la precariedad de los salarios y hacia la propia sociedad, que ve perderse a sus ciudadanos. Esto es así en demasiados casos, y por ello muchos países, además de las instancias internacionales como la OIT o la Unión Europea, se encaminan hacia la limitación tanto de la jornada como de las horas extras, en un claro afán de preservar la salud y la dignidad de los trabajadores.
