The present study aims to analyze the effect of three musical genres with Andean influences (Huayno, Chicha and Rock Fusion) on the components of national identity, emotions and attitudes towards music. For this purpose, an experimental design was carried out with a sample of 185 middle-class Peruvian residents between 18 and 81 years (M=31; SD=13.78). They were randomly assigned to one of three experimental conditions, each consisting of exposure to Huayno (n=64), Chicha (n=61) and Rock Fusion (n=60) musical pieces. It was found that Rock Fusion was the most valued music due to the highest level of attitudes towards music and positive emotions, compared to Huayno and Chicha. Although the latter was the least valued, it had a positive effect on some stereotypical components of national identity. Thus, the ambivalent effect of Chicha music in the representation of belonging to Peru is discussed, as well as the increasing interest in Andean culture through Fusion music.
