This research seeks to analyze how, through art direction, the religiosity of Lima society is represented in the Peruvian auteur cinema of the last decade, specifically the devotion to the Lord of Miracles. This area of cinema, according to authors such as Augusto Tamayo and Inés Olmedo, is in charge of the physical within a film, which includes different elements such as scenography, props, costumes, makeup, and color. Through these, this devotion becomes evident, being the procession and its elements the greatest sample of the fervor of its faithful. To carry out the analysis, two films belonging to Peruvian auteur cinema were selected, which are “El evangelio de la carne“ (2013) by Eduardo Mendoza and “Rosa Chumbe“ (2017) by Jonatan Relayze. Both represent the procession of the Lord of Miracles, from the vision of their directors, as an important element throughout the history of each film. This study is carried out through a qualitative methodology, through content analysis and in-depth interviews with the art directors of both films, Cecilia Herrera and Aaron Rojas, seeking to value the multiplicity of points of view represented in this film. cinema area. This thesis makes it possible to show that art direction contributes significantly to the general objective of a film, strengthening stories and visions, from the physical. Likewise, it demonstrates the meticulous work behind it and the need to continue expanding knowledge about it.
