This investigation describes the characteristics of speech production in eight to twelve-year-old children with late cochlear implant. This is a qualitative and descriptive study with multiple case design. The sample is about 14 children from a CEBE in Lima, with speech alterations of phonological phonetic origin and with late cochlear implant. The data was collected through systematic observation with support from the MBGR Protocol of Marchesan and Col, adapted by the CPAL Speech Team (2011). The results indicate that speech production in eight to twelve-year-old children with late cochlear implant is characterized by being imprecise and unintelligible, presenting omissions, substitutions and distortions of all the phonemes in a systematic and unsystematic way. In all cases studied the fones / m /, / p /, / t /, are produced properly; the most frequent phones in substitution are / b / by / m, p, j /; / t / by / n, j /; / d / by / t, n /; / n / by / p, t /; / l / by / n /; / ll / by / s, j /; / ñ / by / t, s, j /; / f / by / t /; / s / by / p, t, ch /; / ch / by / t, n /; / k / by / t, n, j /; / g / per / t, n /; / j / by / n, g /; / r / by / p, n, l / unsystematically, and the phone found in greatest distortion is / s /.In conclusion, we can say that the age of implantation has a fundamental role in the speech acquisition and intelligibility process.
