The objective of this research is to demonstrate the development of sanitation service providers (known in Spanish as EPS) is a determinant of the health of children under 5 years of age in Peru. This relation is measured through the indicator of micromeasurement of the EPS and the number of acute diarrheal diseases (ADD) presented in children under 5 years of age, belonging to the urban sector of localities inside the ambit of responsibility of every analyzed EPS. The data have been obtained from the Demographic and Family Health Survey (in Spanish as ENDES) and the National Superintendence of Sanitation Services (in Spanish as SUNASS) and correspond to the average from 2010 to 2015. In this way, a cross-sectional sample of averages is obtained, where the unit of analysis is the localities (85 in total) and the data for each variable to be included are their averages from 2010 to 2015. Four classical linear regression econometric models with variable “k“ are formulated to estimate. The method used to evaluate the significance of the estimated coefficients is the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS). Also, multicollinearity and heteroskedasticity tests are applied, and a correction of correlation of type clusters to the econometric models, to avoid distortions in the estimates. The results of this research show that a major interest in the development of the regulated EPS by SUNASS can be determinant to improve the health of children under-5 years, because both, the access to sanitation services and their quality are relevant in the formation of public policies and strategies associated to the protection of public health, especially the most vulnerable population such as children.
