This paper seeks to explore the effect that child care services have on the life courses of women mothers of children from 0 to 3 years of age, more specifically, to analyze how they help to reduce the social costs of maternity and facilitate the insertion of women in the labor market. For this, the following question is posed: In what way does the absence or insufficiency of child care services represent a social cost for families in terms of organization of care, exposure to poverty, as well as in the labor and educational trajectories of children? women?. It will be based on the hypothesis that the absence or insufficiency of child care services represents a form of precariousness in the place of residence and affects the educational and labor trajectories of women with children under 5 years of age, which in turn contributes to a intergenerational transmission of poverty in families. For this, a state of the art on early childhood care services, its operation in Peru and its benefits for the development of children and women is elaborated. Later on, a theoretical framework is presented where the methodological tools necessary to develop this research are addressed: concepts for the study of inequalities that go beyond poverty, the concept of an intergenerational transmission of poverty, the family organization of child care and the life trajectory approach. Finally, a methodological design is presented that consists of the application of in-depth interviews to mothers of children under five years of age residing in Pamplona Alta, an area of the San Juan de Miraflores district, this to explore child care strategies and their effect on their life trajectories.
