desigual.
This research focuses on the study of the impact of extractivism on the sustainability of Peru around the years 1980-2019.It is proposed that the country has been characterized by generating physical deficits, since a greater volume of materials has been exported at lower prices in relation to what has been imported, which are products with higher prices, generating greater environmental pressure and dependence on global demand, as well as welfare losses reflected in the increase in socioenvironmental conflicts. The method used in this research is material flow accounting (MFA), which is part of the social metabolism that considers the economy as part of a more complex and global system in which continuous exchanges happen of matter and energy together with nature. Thus, it is concluded that the extraction of materials in Peru is much faster than what the ecosystem can assimilate. In the particular case of the Peruvian economy, its productive activities physically depend on imports of biomass and fossil fuels, and on the extraction of minerals for export. In addition, there is a lack of accounting for environmental liabilities produced by unequal ecological trade.
