Nuevo Horizonte Association is one of the associations of the Carapongo Valley, a subsector of the Rímac river basin located in the Lurigancho district of Lima. The population of this area has seen a constant reduction of agricultural land, and other characteristic phenomena of peri-urban spaces. However, these changes, and their implications for the question of agricultural and non-agricultural work, are neither homogeneous nor linear. From a theoretical framework that gathers discussions about the evolution of the peasantry in the context of a peripheral capitalism and the particularities of peri-urban spaces, we propose to analyze two closely related issues. On the one hand, we address the territorial changes expressed in the phenomena of industrialization and urbanization, and the characterization of peri-urban agricultural production. From this, we will analyze the class transformations of the peri-urban peasantry prioritizing a process approach that gives rise to the dynamism present in the labor and productive reality of the association. From this research, we seek to make a contribution to the study of the particularities of the progress of urban industrial capital development in peri-urban areas with agricultural presence, which at the same time tend to be affected by urban growth given its proximity to the city.
