This research focuses on the Corporación Peruana del Amazonas (CPA), a state-owned development company established during the government of Manuel Prado and funded by the Peruvian and U.S. governments through the Rubber Development Corporation. For nearly ten years, the CPA primarily promoted and regulated rubber production in Peru as part of a U.S.- backed program to increase rubber production during World War II. However, after the end of the war, Peru's rubber production mainly reached its domestic market. The hypothesis of the research is that, despite being a state entity, private capital played a fundamental role in the direction of the CPA's activities, since rubber tappers and businessmen interested in other raw materials from the Peruvian jungle had a strong influence on the management of production and import policies. They consolidated their influence when the government failed to facilitate the necessary conditions for the colonization of the region and lost relevance in the company, allowing private interests to control economic activities in the Peruvian Amazon.
